RAKIURA CHALLENGE 2021
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
7 SEPTEMBER 2021

Events in New Zealand are again faced with challenging times due to the resurgence of the Covid-19 more highly infectious Delta Variant.
Due to the recent announcement and the new Covid restrictions, the Rakiura Challenge Trail Run 2021 is cancelled.
This cancellation is due to the uncertainty resulting from the new Covid restrictions.
The Rakiura Challenge is made up of many moving parts, these include the run, marshalling, catering, requirements for accommodation for all competitors and supporters. Virtually everyone involved with the event will be travelling to and from Stewart Island from many places throughout New Zealand.
The uncertainty we are now faced with may ultimately have resulted in a later notice announcement cancelling the event. If this were to happen, this could have created logistical problems for runners, supporters and others travelling to Stewart Island and having to reschedule travel and other arrangements.
The Organising Group have consulted with stakeholders, suppliers and the community in making this disappointing and difficult decision. All are agreed that this is a responsible decision given the uncertainty we are now faced with.
Competitors and supporters will be contacted directly over the next week regarding entry fee refunds.
The Rakiura Challenge Trail Run 2022 is now scheduled to be held on Saturday, 1 October.
